Biometric boarding coming to JFK
JFK Airport’s Terminal One Group has signed a co-operation agreement with technology company Vision-Box, to modernise passenger processing and roll out one of the largest biometric boarding airport platforms in the US.
The agreement will see a self-service boarding solution added to the airport’s Terminal 1, allowing travellers to board their flight using biometric eGates. The eGates will recognise passengers by matching their faces with previously enrolled and stored data, removing the need for passports or boarding passes to be presented at the gate.
While these advancements happen, one of the four runways (Runway 13L-31R ) at JFK will close this week for reconstruction until November. The reconstruction will increase the runway by 33% and allow the installation of new flights, signs, cables and navigation aids.
