Flight Centre Travel Group Appoints Mummy Mafojane as General Manager of FCM South Africa
At a time when Southern Africa's corporate travel spend is projected to grow 22% YoY (GBTA 2025), Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) is positioning local expertise as its competitive edge in the battle for business travel’s new economic reality. As part of this strategy, Mummy Mafojane has been appointed General Manager of FCM South Africa, effective April 1, 2025.
With extensive experience in corporate travel, Mafojane will focus on driving growth for both FCM and its clients while ensuring that customer service remains at the core of everything her team delivers.
Since joining FCM in 2014 as a Travel Manager, Mafojane has steadily risen through the leadership ranks, holding key positions such as Area Leader and Productive Operations Leader. She has played an instrumental role in strengthening operational efficiencies, driving seamless service delivery at scale, and implementing high-impact client strategies within multinational environments.
In her new role, Mafojane will focus on reinforcing customer relationships while expanding data-driven insights that give businesses greater control over their global mobility programmes.
“Mummy is an exceptional leader who embodies everything that makes FCM stand out,” said Bonnie Smith, outgoing General Manager and newly appointed Corporate Traveller UK Head. “Her passion for people-first innovation and her sharp business acumen ensure she's ready to elevate our brand even further.”
Mafojane highlighted the evolution of corporate travel in South Africa, noting a shift toward a balance between innovative digital solutions and traditional service models.
We continue to see a blend of technology and human expertise in business travel, and our role is to guide our clients through that transformation,” she said. “At FCM, we bring the best of both worlds—cutting-edge technology supported by experienced consultants who provide expert advice when it matters most.
As corporate travel becomes increasingly technology-driven, Mafojane is focused on ensuring that digital transformation enhances—not replaces—the human aspect of business travel management.
“Our customers are becoming increasingly tech-savvy. They want seamless, efficient booking experiences that make their lives easier,” she explained. “Our goal is to ensure we leverage technology in a way that strengthens the customer experience, not replaces the human element—because corporate travel isn’t just about transactions, it’s about people.”
Another major trend shaping the future of corporate travel is the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and its role in enhancing travel management services.
“AI is going to be a game-changer in how we tailor the travel experience, from predictive analytics to smarter, more proactive service delivery,” Mafojane noted. “But what sets FCM apart is that we don’t just rely on technology—we pair those advancements with the expertise of travel consultants, account managers, and finance support teams to create a well-rounded service that truly meets the needs of our clients.”
Reflecting on her appointment, Mafojane reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining strong partnerships with existing clients and ensuring a seamless transition.
“Our clients are in good hands. I’ve built relationships with so many of them over the years, and this is simply about working with them on a different leadership level,” she said. “Together with my team, we will continue to focus on delivering exceptional service, looking after travellers, and ensuring we keep our promises.”
To ensure a smooth leadership transition, Mafojane will work closely with outgoing FCM South Africa General Manager Bonnie Smith before officially stepping into her role on April 1, 2025.
"Stepping into my new role with Corporate Traveller UK is incredibly exciting," said Smith. "I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved here over the years—but I know I’m leaving FCM in capable hands with a leader who truly understand what it takes to drive success.”
