Women in travel industry: Breaking Barriers and Leading the Way
March 8th: International Women's Day. A day to celebrate the advances made by women in all fields, and to continue fighting for gender equality. In the travel industry, women are a powerful force, representing 54% of the global workforce. However, there is still a long way to go to achieve full equality.
In the corporate travel sector, female participation is lower. According to data from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), women hold only 38% of management positions, and the global gender pay gap is 17%. While women in Mexico have made significant strides, there is still a 14.7% wage gap between men and women in the travel sector.
To overcome the barriers faced by women in corporate tourism, it is necessary to:
- Promote gender equality in sector policies and practices.
- Encourage workplace flexibility so that women can balance their work and family life.
- Combat gender stereotypes and sexual harassment.
- Support female leadership and entrepreneurship.
At FCM Travel Mexico, we are committed to gender equality and diversity in the workplace. In our country, women represent 60% of sector workforce, and at FCM MX:
- Women make up 63% of "flighties." (that’s our community neckname)
- 43% of management positions are held by women.
- Women represent 73% of managerial and team leader positions.
These figures reflect our commitment to gender equity. We know that women have the talent, ability, and experience to lead at all levels of the company.
The full participation of women in corporate tourism is essential for the sustainable development of the sector. Women have much to contribute to the industry, with their skills, talent, and experience.
On this International Women's Day, we celebrate the achievements of women in tourism and reaffirm our commitment to equality. We continue to work to create a work environment where women have the same opportunities as men to reach their full potential.
