PRESS RELEASE
Singapore Airlines nearly doubles Singapore to Brisbane capacity
Singapore Airlines ramped up its flights into Brisbane to 25 services per week as of last weekend, including four flights a day every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, complementing its existing three-times daily Monday, Wednesday and Friday services.
The added flights are supported by the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, designed to support growth of service frequency, capacity and development of new international aviation routes into Queensland’s international airports.
The move supported the significant demand for the route that was reported by FCM Travel, Flight Centre Travel Group's flagship large market corporate travel company.
"While we’re seeing more travellers eager to get to Singapore, we’ve seen very little change in the cost of fares over the same period, so it's clear this is a critical route to Australians, that is growing in importance," said FCM Travel General Manager ANZ Renos Rologas.
"It's our second largest international air travel market, just behind Port Moresby, reflecting the importance of Singapore to the Australian business and our economy.
"It's an important travel destination on many levels - Singapore in itself is a significant business and trade partner to Australia, it's an essential transit hub for travellers moving between Australia and much of the rest of the world, and it's also a fabulous tourism destination.
"Whilst we have seen international airfares coming down, flights to Singapore have remained somewhat consistent over the past 12 months, with a slower than average decrease in fares, which is why this new capacity from Singapore Airlines is such great news.
"As it's been proven, nothing impacts the price of fares like added competition and capacity. Singapore Airlines' new services will certainly see a softening of fare prices to the city, so it's welcome news for Aussie businesses.
"It's an important market for the mining, oil and gas, finance and insurance, and education sectors, which are the industries that have the highest levels of travel bookings from Australia into Singapore."
According to FCM Travel data, capacity between Singapore and Australia is currently at 100 per cent of the volume of pre-2019 levels, but to date, the route between Singapore and Brisbane had been lagging.
Brisbane to Singapore will go from 63 per cent pre-pandemic capacity to closer to 75 per cent as Singapore Airlines brings the new flights online this week.
